The use of can and can’t in telling about ability is very important.

that’s why when we want to talk about someone or animal’s ability, we use can and can’t in describing. For example: I am a student, I can read and write but I can’t swim. It is a bird, it can fly but can’t jump..

If you want to ask about someone ability, you can simply ask: “can you…(verbs)?”

for example:

  • can you read?
  • can a bee fly?
  • can you swim?

answer those questions, there are two options: yes, I can or no, I can’t.
for example:

A: Can you run?
B: yes, I can run.

  • A: can you climb a tree?
  • B: no I can’t climb a tree.
